Fun Science Sex Facts

There is more research on the topic of sex than ever and the results are quite illuminating!

Your blood pressure goes down and stays down before a stressful event if you have sex up to one week before the event.

Scientists for decades have debated why women have orgasms- only a few known species of female animals do. So say that it's because after a woman orgasms she is less likely to stand up thus not working against gravity in the semen's attempt to make it to the egg. Others say it has to do with the forceful muscle female contractions at the time of orgasm that actually draws up the semen further in towards the egg. Either way it's all about our genetic drive to procreate.

Sperm can actually make you happy, ladies! Semen is made up not only of proteins, enzymes, amino acids, cholesterol, sperm, and sugars but also a whole host of hormones. These hormones are a powerful cocktail of prolactin, estradiol, oxytocin, opioids, and testosterone which all have been shown to effect our joy factor! Without the resistance of a condom or female prophalatic all these hormones reach your bloodstream in a couple of hours and can cause you to experience feelings of emotional well-being.

Taking antidepressants isn't good for your love life. Drugs like Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, and Lexapro are SSRIs which work by lessening impulsive behavior making you think you are more in control. Here's the problem - isn't crazy out-of-control emotional states seem feel like falling in love to you? The truth is that if you are on these drugs you are not as likely to send out signals to others and not see the subtle signs of attraction yourself. They have also been shown to inhibit your ability to orgasm or cause loss of libido. My tip: do a little EFT instead to get over your depression and get your love groove back on!

Warm feet, warm genitalia? In a study on orgasm done in the Netherlands men and women took turns placing their heads in a scanner (to observe brain functions) while their partners tried to bring them to climax. Less than half were able to. Researchers discovered that when they gave the subjects socks to wear during the experiment they immediately reached better results- over 80% reached orgasm!

These little gems are just a small sample of tasty tidbits in the fabulous book by Jean Pincott titled Do Gentlemen Really Prefer Blondes? Bodies, Behavior, and Brains- The Science Behind Sex, Love, and Attraction.
